Enhancing Your eCommerce Site’s Credibility: Part 2

E-commerce. In the previous part of this series I addressed the role that credibility plays in online retail sites. Because an increasing number of users are leaving these sites, it behooves us to ensure that the ones that we design are perceived favorably. I then explored a few ways to do this–to increase a retail site’s perceived credibility– including both security and ethical considerations.

Trust. According to data released by comScore, online retail spending amounted to $49. 7 billion during Q4 2011, indicating an increase of 14 percent over 2010. As overall sales increased, however, the MarketLive Performance Index for Q3 2011 showed that the “1-and-out” rate (better known as the “bounce” rate) of online shoppers also increased by more than 22%.
